MIKOŁAJ PONCYLJUSZ / WerMik Studio

Mikołaj Poncyljusz is a Polish guitarist, composer, music producer, and sound engineer whose work bridges jazz, improvised music, contemporary composition, experimental sound, and theatre. As a performer and creator, he is recognized for developing a distinctive musical language that combines expressive improvisation with atmospheric textures and cinematic storytelling.

He is the co-founder and guitarist of Light Star Guiding, an ensemble exploring cosmic jazz, psychedelic improvisation, and contemporary experimental music. The group performs regularly at festivals, clubs, and cultural events in Poland and abroad, continuously expanding its artistic collaborations and international presence.

Poncyljusz is also a long-standing member of HoTS, with whom he has recorded several critically acclaimed albums, including a live release documenting the band’s energetic and spontaneous performances. Throughout his career he has collaborated with a wide range of artists and ensembles, including Bezpańskie Psy, Ola Jas, Warsaw Improvised Orchestra, SZU, and productions of the Opera at the Castle in Szczecin.

Alongside his concert activity, he is an active composer and arranger for theatre. His music has been created for numerous stage productions, where improvisation, sound design, and dramaturgical sensitivity play a central role in shaping the audience’s experience. He currently collaborates with Strefa WolnoSłowa, Teatr Powszechny, the Grotowski Institute, and the Museum of Modern Art in Warsaw, creating original scores and live music for theatrical and interdisciplinary projects.

As a producer and sound engineer, Poncyljusz works across a broad spectrum of recording, mixing, and post-production projects. His studio practice is guided by the same artistic curiosity and attention to detail that define his work as a guitarist, enabling him to support artists in developing authentic and distinctive sonic identities.

Whether performing on stage, composing for theatre, or working in the recording studio, Mikołaj Poncyljusz continues to explore new forms of musical expression. His work reflects an ongoing dialogue between improvisation, composition, and sound art, establishing him as one of the versatile voices of Poland’s contemporary independent music scene.
